When you think of the LA.com domain name, what do you think of? For many, Los Angeles immediately comes to mind. The Los Angeles Times paid a seven-figure fee to acquire the LA.com domain name in recent years. Many speculated that the company may eventually upgrade from LATimes.com to LA.com, but so far that theory has proven to be wrong. As of writing, the LA.com domain name hosts a coming soon page for a standalone site promoting Los Angeles.

These are just three examples of two-letter .COM domains that have been acquired and put to use by brands willing to invest significant amounts of money into their online identity.
