Sushi.com Domain Sells to Hong Kong, According to WHOIS

According to Statista, the sushi restaurant industry’s market size in the United States is $22.5 billion in 2021. How much is the corresponding .COM domain name worth?

A recent CategoryDefining.com landing page offers Sushi.com for sale at $1.9 million, but it seems that this name has already been sold based on available WHOIS data.

Sushi.com, according to DomainIQ’s WHOIS history, was owned by Hostgator founder Brent Oxley until earlier this week when the name entered Afternic’s escrow holding account, signifying that the name was in the process of being sold. Unusually, Sushi.com has not featured on Brent’s Efty marketplace with his portfolio of other high-value domains.

Today, WHOIS data updated to show Future XXX Limited of Hong Kong as the new registrant. A quick search shows that Future XXX Limited used to be called Jolly Billion Limited up until December 2020. No other details about Sushi.com’s new registrant are known at this time.

  1. According to Statista, the sushi restaurant industry’s market size in the United States is $22.5 billion in 2021. How much is the corresponding .COM domain name worth?”

That bit is largely irrelevant. The buyers for this name would be brands, not sushi companies. For a sushi seller it is likely a 5 figure name max, 99% wouldn’t even pay that..
